5th Workshop on Traditional Stonemasonry is organized by the BLOSSOMING STONES
The 5th Workshop on Traditional Stonemasonry is organized by the BLOSSOMING STONES, and will take place in Lagadia – Arcadia, a major craftsman village in Peloponnese, from the 24th to the 30th of July 2023, in sequence to the previously held, especially successful, workshops.
The Workshop will focus in stone constructions (buildings, cobbled streets, stone walls, etc.), within the traditional settlement of Lagadia. The main goal will be to train a new generation of stonemasons, as well as under-graduate and post-graduate students (architects, civil engineers, etc.), with specific interest in traditional stonemasonry techniques. The team of trainers includes local and invited stonemasons, as well as distinguished scientists. The main courses of the workshop address the technical hands-on practice of trainees, augmented through live interaction with the empirical knowledge of old stonemasons. The educational program is also enriched with technical seminars on the theory behind the restoration of traditional architecture monuments, and the use of traditional construction materials.
Throughout the Workshop and during the evening hours parallel sessions will take place, focusing in the promotion of the cultural heritage of stonemasonry, both in Lagadia and in other important settlements of traditional stonemasonry, accompanied by an outdoor Sculpture Workshop, titled «From Stonemasons to Sculptors», held from 17th to 30th July 2023, in which distinguished sculptors will participate.
Attendance to the Workshop courses and events is free of charge. The organizers will place all possible effort to facilitate the needs of the trainees. BLOSSOMING STONES will work closely with local enterprises to secure affordable food and accommodation for all the trainees.
